Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Rashard Johnson is the president of Advocate Trinity Hospital in Chicago and South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, Illinois. He has a Masters in Health Services Administration from the University of Central Florida and has vast experience working in hospitals all over the country.
In this episode Dr. Tony and Rashard discuss a very relevant and timely subject—the COVID-19 vaccine. To begin their conversation, Dr. Tony shares some historical context pertinent for a discussion of why members of the African American community may be hesitant to get vaccinated. Following this, Tony and Rashard share some personal experiences of racism in the workplace, on the road, and in other contexts.
With regard to the vaccine, Rashard shares some of the apprehensions he initially had to receiving it as well as some questions he had about it, and Dr. Tony responds to each one.
Additionally, they talk about their respective experiences of receiving the vaccine, why communities of color are disproportionately being effected by the virus, the contents/ingredients of the COVID vaccine, the virus mutation in South Africa and whether the vaccine will be effective against this mutation, whether you should get the vaccine if you have already had the virus or are very healthy already, and the statistical effectiveness of the various vaccines that are available.
